Their paths converge once again when a new rash of Seever-esque killings crops up across Denver. And Seever’s loyal wife Gloria is a social pariah, harassed by strangers in the grocery store and left purposeless without her life-of-the-party husband beside her. Dogged reporter Sammie Peterson covered every angle of Seever’s arrest for the Denver Post and was in talks to write a book about him - it didn’t happen, and now she’s selling makeup in the mall.

There’s Detective Hoskins, who helped bring down Seever and was the police department’s golden boy until his hot temper landed him in the musty department basement, cataloguing cold case files. Seven years later, the Denverites who were most closely invested in Seever’s case are struggling with the decline in quality of life each has experienced since peaking with Seever’s downfall. He’s sentenced to death, and the story begins. Joann Chaney’s debut novel, What You Don’t Know, opens with 31 tortured and murdered people being discovered buried under man-about-town Jacky Seever’s laundry room floor.
