If you love a good show of diversity in your novels, Renegades won’t disappoint you. Both are questioning their chosen “side” and exploring the truth of justice, good, and evil. Not only that, but their story lines mirror each other in an intriguing and compelling way. The POV alternates every other chapter or so and allows us to see both sides of the line. This really gets some depth with the dual story lines of Nova and Adrian. While containing all the classic elements of a superhero story, Meyer gives us a fresh look at the hero-villain dynamic, seamlessly questioning what it means to be both. Marissa Meyer has written a riveting story in a genre that I find somewhat lacking. Will Nova’s new found doubts pull her away from her quest for vengeance? Or will she betray her new friends and stay true to her mission for the Anarchists? PROS: Nova is surprised by his and his friends’ easy acceptance of her, and she soon finds their friendliness to be disarming and distracting. He supports and encourages Nova as she enters the Renegade force. Enter Adrian, a Renegade boy passionate about justice and being a hero. But the only way to do that is to become a Renegade herself. She wants vengeance, and she plans to get it through an undercover mission inside the Renegade headquarters. Nova, aka Nightmare, is a junior Anarchist with a particular reason for hating the Renegades.

To everyone but these skulking villains, they are regarded as heroes and beacons of hope. Bit by bit they are rebuilding a city once engulfed in chaos and ruled by villains – the Anarchists. In a dystopian world, peace and order was restored to Gatlon City by a group of super-powered humans known as prodigies.
